In The Maid, Chilean filmmaker Sebastian Silva serves up a restrained social drama about a live-in maid working for a rich Santiago family. Portrayed outstandingly by Catalina Saavedra, the increasingly resentful Raquel struggles to keep her relationship to the family on an even keel. Critic Ella Taylor calls the film "a very personal study in liberal guilt," one that straddles the line between black comedy and agitprop. (Recommended)
